The things that end a first trip early

Most first-trip problems are hookup problems: a sewer hose that doesn’t reach, a plug that doesn’t fit the pedestal, or no way to level the rig. That’s why hookups and leveling come first in this list – the kitchen can be improvised, a 30-to-50 amp adapter can’t.

Keep the drinking-water hose separate

Store the drinking-water hose in its own bag or bin, never with the sewer gear, and cap its ends. Many RVers use a white or blue hose for water so it can’t be mixed up.

Frequently asked questions

Do I really need RV toilet paper?
You need toilet paper that breaks down quickly in the black tank. Some household brands do; RV-labeled paper takes the guesswork out.
What size adapter do I need?
Look at your RV’s power cord: 30 amp has three prongs, 50 amp has four. Carry an adapter for the other type, plus a 15A household adapter for charging at home.
